Twestival organizers are in a flurry of preparation for the September 11th event, and the excitement is contagious.

“I heard them talking about it,” says James Terrell, kitchen manager of Old Chicago in Edmond. “My first thought was, this is a good idea - this helping boys, making sure they have funding. My second thought was, we love to throw parties and we know we’ll do a better job of it than anyone else.”

The Old Chicago team is warming up their ovens to serve deep dish Chicago style pizza from 7 pm until… whenever on September 11, 2009. Oklahoma City is invited to Tweetup, enjoy some music under the stars, and taste a whole lot of Old Chicago hospitality.

Get your tickets today. Remember! All proceeds go to benefit White Fields, a non-profit that provides a home for severely abused and neglected boys in permanent DHS custody. Follow TwestivalOKC on Twitter for updates and additional information.

Bigger Than Ever - Twestival Local 2009 Comes to Oklahoma City
Global Twitter-based charity event returns with local twist.

Oklahoma City, OK August 21, 2009- Following the success of the first global Twestival on February 12th 2009, in which 202 cities participated, Twestival returns in September with a local twist. “Twestival” is a volunteer-run charity fundraising event for people who know each other through the micro-blogging service twitter.com. Oklahoma City’s own Twitter festival will take place at 7:00 pm on September 11, 2009 at Old Chicago restaurant located at 1150 East 2nd Street in Edmond.

Twestival OKC will raise funds for Piedmont based White Fields, which cares for abused and neglected boys in permanent custody of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Child Welfare Division. Trent Ward, co-founder of White Fields said, “The typical White Fields boy is a child that has been through the worst possible situations a human can imagine. They are the boys that have been left by the way side by their families. They have never had any stability in their lives. What White Fields provides for these children is a place of permanence, a real home.”

The first 24 hour “‘tweet-up’ with a social conscience” inspired thousands and raised $250,000 for a clean water charity. The next event, Twestival Local, looks to be even bigger. Twestival Local gives every city in the world a chance to hold their own Twestival. These events will take place anytime between September 10-13, 2009, and cities may choose their own local charity. Twitter users in Oklahoma City chose White Fields based on an online vote, details of which you can see at http://OklahomaCity.Twestival.com.

Volunteer teams in Oklahoma City and cities around the world are coming together to survey their communities, nominate causes, plan events, gather sponsors and raise funds. Oklahoma City Twestival organizer Rex Barrett said, “We’re so excited about Twestival OKC. We’re working with a great team of volunteers and sponsors to raise funds for White Fields. We hope to see people in the Metro join us to have an amazing celebration and generate a lot of cash and awareness!”

Partnering locally with Twestival OKC organizers are Old Chicago restaurant of Edmond providing location and food services, Samuel Gordan Jewelers offering items to auction in benefit of White Fields, SandRidge Energy, Inc., and 360 Internet Management. These partners allow 100% of the $15 ticket price to go directly to White Fields in order for them to provide equine therapy for their residents.

Global partners for Twestival are Amiando, Citrix Online, Blurb, Mashable and Causecast. For the for the full and changing list of cities, or to get involved yourself, go to http://OklahomaCity.Twestival.com.

Old Chicago Steps Up

Posted on: August 19, 2009 at 8:22 pm - Comment

We are excited to announce Old Chicago as the Twestival venue. They really stepped up to the plate by giving us the use of their facility. Thank you SO MUCH Old Chicago and James!

Your tickets will include two slices of deep dish pizza and your drink* (there are prizes up for grabs too, but we’ll announce that in a bit). They are offering additional pizza, drink and appetizer specials just for our crowd.

We’ll be on the patio and the party will spill into the west side parking lot, which will be shut down just for the DJ, band and all of us of course. We’ll kick off the festivities at 7:00 PM and continue until they kick us out of the place.

This’ll be good, I promise you that! Remember, 100% of the ticket goes to White Fields all the goodies are provided by sponsors. Please retweet this info, we’ve made it easy, just click that button over there on the right.

Looking forward to Sept. 11th,
Rex B.

Well, here we go!

Posted on: July 29, 2009 at 7:46 am - Comment

Oklahoma City has been approved as a Twestival participant. What does this mean? Well, that’s easy… We are going to throw a heck of a party for White Fields, a long term safe house for severely abused boys.

Twestival has blown up in the short time they’ve been around. On 12 February 2009, 200+ international cities hosted a Twestival (Twitter + festival) to bring Twitter communities together to raise money for charity: water. The Twestival raised $250,000+ and brought worldwide public awareness to the global water crisis.

We have the unique opportunity to host Twestival Local. Instead of pooling all the funds towards one global project, this event will happen around the world on the same weekend with all money raised staying local. We’ll benefit from the shared resources, media focus and build friendships with others around the globe doing the same.

Through a one week voting process using UserVoice, White Fields was selected as the nonprofit OKC will support. Check them out, what a great place to be working with!
